Teaching Critical Thinking to Children
Setting Up Your Homeschooler To Take Initiative For Their Learning In Just 6 Weeks
Teaching Critical Thinking to Children is the only small group coaching program that guides homeschooling moms through a 5 step process to see your child take more initiative.
In just 6 weeks of training, develop the qualities of love, clarity, and discernment in your homeschooler as they grow their thinking skills, all while deepening your relational connection.
Fall Cohort Sept-Oct 2024
Critical thinking is an example of one of the highest forms of thought that your child can start developing once they reach the brain maturity of around 9 years old.
By fostering the growth and development of these thinking skills, you are preparing your child to know and express their unique ideas with the world in a way that respects the differences of others.
This program goes so much deeper than application strategies such as logical fallacies, or propaganda. While we will unpack what some of the major forms of manipulative communication are and how to use critical thinking to counter it during week 4, we will also be going deeper to develop the underlying skills and character traits that make up a critical thinker.
Follow the Critical Thinking Method
-
Week 1
For week 1, we will unpack what critical thinking is and how you can measure success with bringing this program into your homeschool.
-
Week 2
The second week is focused on thoughtful communication.
Healthy, loving dialogue comes from a place of non-judgement. We will unpack how to identify and resolve unhealthy patterns of communication and I will show you how to teach your child to receive and respond with openness.
-
Week 3
For week 3, we will dive deep into the process of gradual release.
If you want your child to take initiative, you need to give them space to give that a go! Gradually release your child by first creating “white space” that they can expand into. This is done through a scaffolding process to prevent your child from becoming frustrated.
-
Week 4
During week 4, you will discover the tools for investigative listening.
With examples and activities for various practical application moments, you will learn how to teach skill development of: identifying credibility, questioning & predicting, problem solving, and comparing conflicting ideas.
-
Week 5
Next, you will explore how to nurture internal development.
Help your child become more self-aware and create a healthy template for how they see themselves to avoid being swayed by manipulative communication. Each personality responds differently when applying critical thinking skills.
-
Week 6
Finally, set your child up for knowledgeable decision making.
We will unpack how to develop your child’s ability to make rational decisions with clarity and discernment. I will show you how to walk through examples together of situations that have more than one right answer, or no right answer at all!

The higher level of thinking we will be talking about is geared toward families with children around age 9 and up. Children younger than this have not undergone the brain maturity to determine validity of reasoning.
-
Live weekly calls will be 1 hour per week for 6 weeks. The day and time of the week is flexible depending on the availability of those who register.
If you cannot attend live for whatever reason, you will have access to a recording.

Critical thinking is NOT the same as critcalness.
Critical thinking is having an openness to explore ideas and perspectives to determine if what is being communicated is helpful in various situations.
Criticalness is about making judgements based off a certain perspective, which often comes across as harsh or mean. Not everyone holds the same perspectives and being critical does not demonstrate loving communication.
